David Hindin is a surgical resident at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and passionate about creativity in medicine. He noticed a lack of creativity during medical training.  To further explore this, and as part of a research project, he set out on a documented video journey across the United States in search of innovation in medicine. The idea came about from a TEDx Wilmington talk titled Why Your Doctor should Daydream Dr. Hindin presented and was the pilot of his YouTube video series with the same title. In the series, Dr. Hindin visits with different facilities and healthcare innovators to discuss their insights and how they are using creativity in their space to move healthcare forward, or “design thinking”. He also adds his own thoughts and observations with his Vlog along the way.
Dr. Hindin is no stranger to advancing the intersections of innovation, technology, and medicine in just the video content space. Much of Dr. Hindin’s video series was inspired from an iPhone/iPad app he created last year: Invented. Invented spotlights how the worlds of innovative technologies and medicine intersecting are improving people’s health in creative ways.
It is clear from Dr. Hindin’s work that he believes to advance the medical field, creativity must be emphasized through all levels of medical education, starting in the early years of medical school. Dr. Hindin’s passion for medical innovation is creating an impact on his field of medicine and will help current and future generations of physicians and patients. For this, we recognize Dr. David Hindin as our Medical Influencer of the Week.
