Dr. Peter Valenzuela is a family physician and Chief Medical Officer for Sutter Medical Group of the Redwoods, in the heart of Sonoma Valley, California. He’s worked in multiple healthcare settings in the last two decades including private practice, academics, multi-specialty medical groups and integrated delivery systems.
Peter is the creator of Doc-Related, a webcomic that follows the hilarious experiences of physicians, staff, and administrators working within a large health system. He takes a satirical view of the challenges of practicing ambulatory medicine today, with topics including patient satisfaction, provider satisfaction, provider performance, quality, compliance, EMRs, and business terminology.
The comic was inspired by his experiences–both as a physician and now as an executive–and he continues to practice medicine on a part-time basis. The characters are an amalgamation of people that Peter has worked with over time. His hope is that these stories will help you better understand how difficult it is to provide excellent care today while balancing the demands of healthcare bureaucracy.
